On March 13, 2020, I was working in a classroom as a substitute teacher. Not long after lunch, the Principal announced over the PA system that school would be closed the following week. That was effectively the beginning of what would become a months-long lockdown in Los Angeles because of COVID-19. Traffic on LA freeways evaporated. Places normally jammed with people were empty. Shopping malls, office parks, beaches, hiking trails, and virtually every place people normally gathered were closed. During lockdown, I took advantage of the reduced traffic and empty public places to make photographs not possible during normal times.
